If not, consider yourself lucky. Since the pandemic began, theft from our front porches has been on the rise. According to a (June 2020) Value Penguin survey which finds that:
- 54% of Americans say they’ve had multiple packages stolen in the last 12 months and 33% knew someone who’s had a package stolen during the quarantine. 1 in 3 have taken no action to prevent porch piracy.
- Americans lost an average of $106 to porch piracy, with respondents reporting losses as high as $4,800 from a single package. About 30% of package theft victims did not get all of their money back, and less than half of victims said the thief was caught.
So what can you do to help prevent having your deliveries stolen? Most delivery services will try to place your packages out of the “line-of -sight” of the road to discourage drive by theft. Another good option is to contact a neighbor to “pick-up” your delivery for safe-keeping.
But how will you know when it arrives? Get a video doorbell.
